Matthew 7:7-11

Keep On Asking

Matthew 7:7-11

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents-if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.

  • Asking Takes Effort
      • Matthew 7:7-8   Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
  • Asking Gets the Attention of the Father
      • Matthew 7:11   So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
      • Matthew 6:6   But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
  • Asking Involves Persistence
      • Luke 18:4-8   The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, 'I don't fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!' Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don't you think God will surely give justice to His chosen people who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off? I tell you, He will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will He find on the earth who have faith?"
      • Ephesians 6:18   Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
  • Asking in Alignment with God's Word
      • 1 John 3:22   And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him.
      • 1 John 5:14   And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him.
      • John 15:7   But if you remain in Me and My words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
  • Asking with Faith
      • But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
      • James 5:16   Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
      • Ephesians 3:20   Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
