Philippians 3:12-16

Now That I Am A Christian

Philippians 3:12-16

I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to posseses that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

  • Forgetting the Past
      • Philippians 3:13   No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past.
      • Acts 17:30   God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.
      • Matthew 6:14   If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
  • Looking Forward
      • Philippians 3:14   I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
      • 2 Corinthians 5:17   This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
      • Jeremiah 29:11   "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
      • Ephesians 4:21-24   Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God - truly righteous and holy.
  • Press On
      • Philippians 3:13-14   No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
      • 1 Corinthians 9:24-25   Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are desciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
      • Acts 2:42   All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.
