Revelation 2:1-7

How to Get Our First Love Back

Revelation 2:1-7

Write this letter to the angels of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lampstands: I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don't tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. But I have this complaint against you. You don't love me or each other as you did at first. Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don't repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

  • Have You Fallen
      • Revelation 2:5   Look how far you have fallen!
      • Psalm 139:23-24   Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
  • Turn Back to Jesus
      • Revelation 2:5   Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me
      • Hebrews 12:1-2   Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, epecially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne.
      • John 14:6   Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
  • Do the Works You Did at First
      • Revelation 2:5   Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first.
      • Revelation 3:3   Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again.
      • Galatians 6:9-10   So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity we should do good to everyone-especially to those in the family of faith.
  • Repent
      • Revelation 2:5   Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don't repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
      • Acts 26:20   I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God-and prove they have changed by the good things they do.
      • Acts 3:19-20   Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.
  • Lsten to the Spirit
      • Reveation 2:7   Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.
      • John 16:13-14   When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.
      • Romans 8:5-6   Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
