Matthew 6:9-13

Our Heavenly Father

Matthew 6:9-13

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Intro:

Matthew 7:9-11   You parents - if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

  • Our Heavenly Father Loves Us
      • Matthew 6:9   Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
      • John 3:16   For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
      • Psalm 103:8-11   The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not pupnish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
  • Our Heavenly Father Provides
      • Matthew 6:11   Give us today the food we need.
      • Ephesians 3:20   Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
      • 1 Timothy 6:17   Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
  • Our Heavenly Father Forgives
      • Matthew 6:12   ...and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
      • 1 John 1:9   But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
      • Psalm 103:9-10,12   He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve....He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
  • Our Heavenly Father Guides Us
      • Matthew 6:13   And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
      • Psalm 23:2-4   He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
